THE Lord Mayor of York has formally renewed the friendship agreement between York and its German twin city Munster.
In a tripartite agreement with Kristiansand in Norway, Coun Irene Waudby signed new commitments to future exchanges on social, cultural and economic issues. The ceremony, in Munster, marked the 50th anniversary of the twinning agreement.
Representatives from the German city presented the people of York with a specially struck coin to celebrate the 50th anniversary.
During the ceremony, Coun Waudby followed tradition by drinking from the golden cockerel of Munster.
The hospitality shown to the civic leaders is to be repaid during a visit to England of 30 representatives of the Munster-York Association.
