WITH reference to the music at St Sampson’s Centre, I entirely agree with the letters written by D M Deamer and Richard Whittaker and the lady that also wrote expressing her annoyance at N Green.

I’m sure the organisers at St Sampson’s do get their sums right. N Green is the one that has got his sums wrong.

First of all I think he underestimates how many hundreds of 80-year-olds there are around and I am sure they will all remember the war and the songs that were on everyone’s lips.

And for N Green to condemn Vera Lynn’s singing as being mawkish is not right. She deserved every plaudit that she recently received on her 100th birthday.

Over the years St Sampson’s has provided a wonderful service to the community and people like Richard Whittaker and Louis Creed before him and the volunteers deserve a big thank you from the residents of York.

In the oldies section at the golf club where I play we have 50 members that are over 60, of which 14 are over 80 and one is 90-years-old and they all play.

I agree with Richard. I think we 80-year-olds can feel sorry for N Green’s attitude at being old.

Accept life as it is and try to be happy.
