SPECIAL commemorations are to take place in the city next year, marking the centenary of the end of the First World War.
Councillors are to set up a working group to organise the commemorations, after Cllr Ian Gillies proposed the idea as a way of marking York’s long history as a garrison city. Agreed at Thursday’s full council meeting, Cllr Gillies said the commemoration could involve military units with links to York, local schools, art works, and theatrical works like last year’s Blood + Chocolate.
