CHARITIES and community groups are being urged to apply for a share of £150,000 from the city council, to help people manage their finances better.
The money has been set aside in an “improving finances, improving lives” fund. In the last two years the council has given out £180,000 funding things like advice sessions at GP surgeries so patients could get specialist financial help and doctors could focus on clinical issues.
An information session is being held on Monday, April 3 to give groups a chance to find out how to apply. It takes place at the Priory Street Centre from 10am to 11.30am. Attendance is free but registration is required, via www.eventbrite.co.uk, or by emailing financialinclusion@york.gov.uk
Cllr Keith Aspden, who is responsible for economic development and community engagement at City of York Council, said: “One of the council’s key priorities is ensuring a prosperous city for all and we are committed to financial inclusion and supporting vulnerable residents in York.
“Money from the fund has previously helped make a positive difference to the lives of many people across the city.
“I am delighted we have been able to add another £150,000 to the pot over two years.”
