A TADCASTER Grammar School teacher who raised thousands of pounds for Tadcaster’s flood appeal by selling pin badges presented one to the Duke of York during his visit to the town.

Instrumental music teacher Gillian Hainsworth raised more than £16,000 to help local residents and businesses get back on their feet after the floods of Boxing day 2015, by selling thousands of Yorkshire Rose pins donated by costume jeweller Adrian Buckley of Buckley London and by organising a concert.

When the Duke paid a visit this week to see how the town had recovered from the devastating floods, Mrs Hainsworth was invited to meet him and gave him one of the pins.

She said: “I was introduced to Adrian via the Duke of York’s private secretary when I contacted them last year, inviting the Duke to a fundraising concert I organised in the town.”
