A FATHER claims his family’s health is suffering due to damp conditions in their home.

Ian Blanchard, who lives with his partner Rebecca Boyington and their two-year-old daughter Iona, in Station Way, Norton, said the property, which is owned by Yorkshire Housing, suffers from damp.

He said: “We moved here four years ago and originally it was only supposed to be for six months, but we are still here.

“We have had problems with the boiler which has left a stain on the ceiling, which hasn’t been dealt with and the flat is also very damp with mould on the walls.”

Mr Blanchard said the radiator in his daughter’s bedroom had not been working since before Christmas and she had to sleep in her parents’ bedroom. “Iona has a club foot and has been in and out of hospital since she was born,” he said.

“She has also had virus after virus, which the consultant said was 90 per cent caused by damp.”

Mr Blanchard said Iona had been given an inhaler, but couldn’t been diagnosed with asthma until she was five.

“She has been given an inhaler and her cough is horrendous,” he said.

“I also have asthma and I have had to get a stronger inhaler but at least I am older to fight it.”

“We have had five surveyors in looking at the flat and they just blame our three dogs, but they all sleep in the kitchen which is well ventilated.

“We just want something doing as we are concerned for the health of our daughter.”

A Yorkshire Housing spokesman said: “We’ve visited the property a number of times and found no sign of any damp.

“The property does have condensation and we’ve installed some door vents to help with the flow of air.

“Our neighbourhood officer and surveyor, along with the council’s environmental health officer will visit the property.

“We’ll continue to work with the tenant until we can resolve these issues.”
