HOPES have been boosted that a York pub which closed down suddenly will re-open - after an advert for a new manager appeared on Gumtree.
The Wellington Inn, situated in the middle of a row of terraced houses in Alma Terrace, off Fulford Road, has been shut for the past week, with its curtains drawn.
No indication has been given to customers as to when - or if - it will re-open, said regular Tony Wicks, who lives nearby and has been going there for almost 60 years.
He said it was a focal point of the local community and he hoped it would be re-opening.
“It’s a real local’s local,” he said. “We’ve had no information at all but I would have thought it would re-open.”
Nick Love, of the campaign organisation, Camra, said: “It’s a wonderful local amenity. It’s a really lovely local. I hope it will be re-opening.”
A spokesman for owners Samuel Smith’s Brewery of Tadcaster was unavailable for comment yesterday but an advert has appeared on Gumtree saying a live-in single or joint management couple is required for the ‘unspoilt little pub with several rooms, garden, open fires, wooden cask beer.’
