A WOMAN was allegedly found walking an injured seagull on a lead in York.
North Yorkshire Police were called to Parliament Street to reports of the incident, and a spokeswoman said the seagull was on a lead at the time.
The force spokeswoman said: "On arrival, officers discovered that the seagull was injured.
"A 44-year-old woman, of no fixed address, has been charged with using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress, taking a wild bird, and injuring a wild bird."
The seagull was seized from the woman and taken to a local veterinarian to be checked over.
A police spokeswoman said the gull's head and wing injuries were so severe, it later had to be put down.
The woman is due before York and Selby Magistrates' Court next Friday in connection with the incident, which is said to have happened just after 11.30am on Wednesday, June 28.
