THE opportunity to bid on an array of antique coins found on land near Sheriff Hutton is being offered by renowned local racehorse trainer Mick Easterby.

Mr Easterby is auctioning off his coin collection in aid of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The collection includes coins from various periods over the last two millennia, along with axe heads from the Stone Age about 4,500 years ago, Roman artefacts, and fossils.

Mr Easterby said: “For many years now the fields around the farm in Sheriff Hutton have been slowly giving up their secrets.

“It’s an area steeped in history and I’m gobsmacked by what’s turned up.”
