A NEWSAGENT has been fined £290 for selling cigarettes to a 15-year-old.
Alan Wilkinson, from Harrogate, was caught by North Yorkshire County Council’s Trading Standards team as part of their operation into illegal sales.
Cllr Andrew Lee, the Executive member for Growth, Planning and Trading Standards, said:
“Cigarettes are age-restricted to protect the health of our young people and retailers are urged to be aware of the implications of underage sales.”
The county council is aiming to bring about a smoke-free generation by 2025 through education projects and stop smoking services.
