A YORK filmmaker has won an international film award for a music video he shot on a steam train near York.
Dave Thorp, from Fulford, won Best Rock Video at the Jump Music Awards held in Ilford in London, with his film The Fighter.
It was created for country music artists The Paul Mirfin Band.
The video, shot around Thirsk and on the Derwent Valley Light Railway at Murton, starred Paul Mirfin, of Knaresborough, who usually works as a conductor on the York-Harrogate line.
Dave said it was up against more than 60 shortlisted entries from around the world - including America.
“It’s a great award to win,” he said.
“This competition is for Gospel, and Contemporary Christian content, which is not only a huge market but also offers the opportunity to communicate powerful messages in a way I’m not really used to.
“The budgets looked big for some of the competitors and I was surprised we were even shortlisted.
“The Fighter is a song and film with a message which reminds us that we all have our battles and internal conflicts – but by calling on our inner strengths we can combat those adversaries.”
He said that while he directed and photographed the film, any film was a huge team effort.
“Once again, it was thanks to my amazing producer Velton Lishke, from Harrogate, who managed to co-ordinate the shoot, the actors, extras and locations – and bring the film in on time and on budget,” he said.
