SELBY'S 'light, bright and spacious' library has reopened after a seven week refurbishment.
The centre was officially reopened by the chairman of North Yorkshire County Council, Cllr Helen Swiers, on Tuesday, May 15.
It now has mobile bookshelves so the space can be used for different events, as well as new IT facilities in a dedicated area.
The county council's executive member for libraries Cllr Greg White praised the changes.
"The new layout is bright, light and spacious," he said.
"The refurbishment brings customers a range of benefits, not only in the form of excellent library facilities, but also a flexible space to allow the community to make best use of the venue and online access to an expanded range of County and District Council services."
The library has a new children’s area, and celebration at the official opening included animal detectives; a display of Selby library memories; a Living Well session; and an information stand from St Leonard’s Hospice as part of Make a Will Week.
The £140,000 project was jointly funded by North Yorkshire County Council and Selby District Council including £15,000 on new books.
Selby District Council's Cllr Chris Metcalfe said the improved facilities would make people's lives easier by helping them do things online.
