A FILMMAKER who created a fictional ghost hunter has named York’s five most haunted spots in the latest episode of his mini-series.
Oliver Semple runs Monster Island Films and made the feature-length film Kenneth in 2012 with his friend Peter Anthony Farren.
The 36-year-old has created a new character, a fictional paranormal enthusiast named Agravain Kestrel, for a series of short episodes filmed for YouTube.
And he has created a guide to the top five haunted spots in York for his most recent video.
Oliver said: “The idea is that each week he would travel and investigate UFOs, monsters and ghosts.
“I have been on a few ghost walks. I just love the layers of history in York. If anywhere’s going to be haunted it’s going to be York.”
The main character is played by actor Stephen Mosley. The top haunted spots in York chosen by Oliver include the site of the Jorvik Viking Centre, where he said a dig disturbed the spirit of Vikings buried there, and Treasurer’s House, where ghosts of Roman soldiers have reportedly been seen walking through walls in the basement.
He also picks out Clifford’s Tower and Lady Peckett’s Yard as sites where ghosts have been spotted but said Bedern Hall is probably the city’s most haunted location.
He said: “I would say Bedern is the scariest. It’s an old school and workhouse and it was a horrifying place where children were worked to death and then buried.”
He added that the character is roughly based on entertainer Reverend Robert Lionel Fanthorpe and paranormal investigator Maurice Grosse. He is also planning further episodes around the city including investigating a fictional satanic cult in Haxby. To watch the videos visit goo.gl/Z5LBVG.
