A SOLICITORS firm that supports the York Community Pride Awards has said it is “humbled” to help honour the wonderful work of charity fundraisers.
Pryers Solicitors, based at The Stonebow, is once again sponsoring the prize for Charity Fundraiser of the Year.
The award honours residents who have gone above and beyond to help support a good cause.
Nominees need not have raised the most cash but will have shown innovative ideas and gone to great efforts to help charitable organisations.
A spokesman for Pryers said: “Over the years we have sponsored this award we have been humbled to see how many wonderful people there are in the area that will selflessly work to help others and raise funds for very worthy causes.
“This year, we are sure will be no different, and we would urge anyone who thinks they would like to nominate someone they know to do so, so they get the recognition for the wonderful work that they do.”
At last year’s award ceremony the prize went to Richard Shaw.
Mr Shaw was a Poppy Appeal organiser for nearly 20 years and helped raise £500,000 for the annual collection in the Fulford and District area.
Nominees so far this year include six-year-old Bobbie Coverdale who raised more than £500 for Cancer Research after being inspired by her brave grandma's battle with the illness.
A fundraising group, named Sheila's Gals and made up of close family members, has also been nominated by charity the Alzheimer’s Society after raising more than £5,000 for the organisation in honour of much-loved mum and grandma Sheila Hinchcliffe.
The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden Health.
All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in, the City of York Council area.
Three finalists from each category will be invited to the awards ceremony at York Racecourse in October, when the winners will be revealed.
Entries can be submitted to York Community Pride Awards, The Press, 84-86 Walmgate, York, YO1 9YN.
You can also nominate online at yorkpress.co.uk/communitypride. The closing date for entries is Friday, July 27. You must include a supporting statement of no more than two sides of A4 with each nomination, and may include a picture, which unfortunately we will be unable to return.
