CARE home developers look set to get planning approval for a new 64-bed facility in Fulford, as a court fight over the site goes on.
Octopus Health wants to build a new care home on the site of the old council-run Fordlands home, and got planning permission in November.
However, it faces a court battle after a judicial challenge was launched by two Fulford residents, and Octopus has made another duplicate application while the court case goes on.
On Wednesday, July 11, that duplicate application will be decided by a planning committee and papers reveal planning officials are recommending it is approved.
Their report says York does not have enough good quality residential and nursing care, and not meeting the need would have a “profound and negative impact” on the city’s health system.
The court fight over the earlier plan centres on whether technical details of the planning process were followed properly. In February, Judge Mark Raeside QC agreed the points were “arguable”, and a full hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 16.
