THE menu for a Michelin-starred chef's new restaurant in York has been released.
Roots York is a new venture by chef Tommy Banks, whose restaurant The Black Swan at Oldstead was named the best in the world.
The venue will open in the former Bay Horse pub on Marygate in mid September and the restaurant will open for bookings on August 1 at 9pm.
And the menu has just been released on the venue's website.
Seasonal dishes include chicken thigh, rapeseed and chestnut mushrooms at £6.50, black pudding scotch egg with Oldstead piccalilli at £8.50 and lamb and fermented turnip bao at £8.
Desserts sound delicious, with Mary Banks’s apple cake, Oldstead honey and crème fraiche on the menu at £8.50 and white chocolate, Douglas Fir and lemon verbena at £8.50.
For more adventurous diners, options include smoked eel doughnuts and turbot with strawberries and cream.
A 'Roots Feast' menu is also on offer for £50 per person.
A statement on the Roots York website says: "After years of planning it’s time to put down roots in York!
"The next chapter for Tommy Banks and the team behind The Black Swan Oldstead. A sharing plate restaurant embracing the Banks family’s farming ethos and the techniques of The Black Swan.
"Instead of the traditional four seasons, Tommy has worked within his three defining seasons: The Hunger Gap, Time of Abundance and the Preserving Season to bring to Roots a menu that changes throughout the year. Each season brings with it a new menu."
