CITY of York Council could spend £2.52 million on buying commercial properties in Swinegate.
Members of the council Executive have been asked to approve the plans which a report says will help the "ongoing economic vibrancy" of the city centre as well as boosting the council's income.
The council purchased Swinegate Court last year and all of the units are rented out. A report prepared for the Executive meeting on Thursday said the council has now been asked if it would like to buy other property in the area.
Documents say the exact location of the site cannot be revealed as it is not for sale on the open market. The report says: "Purchasing assets in this area will enable the council to ensure the continuation of support for local businesses and to ensure that these sensitive buildings are properly maintained and well managed."
