ONE of the biggest movie franchises in the world will film in North Yorkshire this month.
Hobbs & Shaw, starring Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham, Idris Elba and Vanessa Kirby, is a spin-off from the Fast & Furious franchise and production will move to Eggborough Power Station (pictured below) for one week this month.
The franchise is known for its high-octane stunts, speeding cars and incredible set-pieces, but while exact details on the power station's role in the new film are being kept strictly under wraps by Universal Pictures, The Press understands a number of sets have been built on site.
What is known about the film, is that Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson (pictured below) will return to his role as US Diplomatic Security Agent Luke Hobbs and Jason Statham will reprise his role as mercenary Deckard Shaw, and the two former enemies team up for the new movie which filmmakers have said will feel different to the rest of the franchise while retaining the spectacle and stunts the series is known for.
A spokeswoman for Universal Pictures confirmed Hobbs & Shaw was scheduled to be filmed "at Eggborough Power Station for one week in November", and was happy to announce that despite the franchise featuring countless explosive crashes and car stunts, the public was unlikely to be affected by the production.
She said: "The London-based film crew will not be filming in any public areas so there will be no road closures associated with the film shoot. Intermittent traffic control may occur around the property as needed."
Dwayne Johnson posted an image of himself and Vanessa Kirby - who recently starred in Mission: Impossible Fallout and The Crown - on his Instagram page, along with a few details about the plot and her character.
Leader of Selby District Council, Cllr Mark Crane, said he was pleased to see such a major production coming to the region.
He said: "Coming just a week after it was announced that Channel 4’s coming to Yorkshire, this is yet another example of how our region’s really being taken seriously as a place for film and TV.
"The Selby district is playing a big part in this, with plans for a new creative hub at Church Fenton to build on the success of the Yorkshire Studios already there. I’m sure Eggborough – and the whole of our area – will give a very warm welcome to the cast and crew during their time here. How fantastic to have such world class stars too."
The film is directed by David Leitch, whose previous credits include Atomic Blonde and Deadpool 2, and will be released next summer.
