THIS was the moment the stars of a new BBC historical drama took shoppers by surprise when they wandered down a York street in full costume.
Doctor Foster star Suranne Jones is starring in the title role as Anne Lister, aka Gentleman Jack, a 19th-century diarist, entrepreneur and mountaineer, who married local heiress Ann Walker.
A film crew was at Holy Trinity Church in Goodramgate earlier this week as scenes were filmed.
And actors in full costume caused a stir when they emerged from filming to take a stroll down Goodramgate.
Dawn Lowther, who took the footage on Tuesday, posted on social media: "Well didn't expect this while walking down Goodramgate today: the filming of Gentleman Jack.
"I did see Suranne Jones but she was whisked away in a car as soon as she came out of Holy Trinity Church."
Filming took place in York in July at locations including at Grays Court Hotel. This week there has been filming in Minster Yard and Deangate.
