THE BISHOP of Middlesbrough, the Rt Rev Terence Drainey, will unveil a plaque outside Cliffords Tower in honour of the North Yorkshire lawyer who led a major rebellion against Henry VIII.
Robert Aske, of Aughton near Selby was executed for treason on the walls of the tower in 1537. He led the 1536 Pilgrimage of Grace populist uprising across north England against the king's break with the Catholic Church.
The plaque has been arranged by York Civic Trust and the Knights of St Columba and will be unveiled on November 30 between 11am and 12.30pm.
