THE joint managing director of a technological company that provides audiovisual support at events in York said he is “absolutely honoured” to be involved in the York Community Pride Awards.
Saville Group has sponsored the prizegiving - which celebrates the city’s unsung heroes - for more than a decade.
The Nether Poppleton-based business is again sponsoring the Child of the Year category, which recognises young people aged 12 or under who have overcome adversity or faced up with courage to life’s hardships and challenges.
Andy Dyson, joint managing director of the Saville Group, said: “With a heritage in York that spans nearly 150 years, we are a proud advocate of the city, and in particular the people that make it the wonderful place it is.
“After supporting the Community Pride Awards for over a decade, it is an absolute honour to be part of this fantastic event once again, celebrating the resilience and achievements of people across the city.
“Following on from last year, we’re proud to be supporting the Child of the Year category, which is a truly deserved acknowledgement of the amazing and courageous young people who have have overcome challenges in their lives.
“All the finalists and their stories are truly inspirational and we look forward to celebrating and recognising them on the evening.”
Three remarkable children were the joint winners of the award at last year’s awards.
The Child of the Year accolade was jointly awarded to six-year-old Bobbie Coverdale, Leo Sampson and Daisybella Bond.
Bobbie, from Strensall, received the award after she raised over £500 for cancer research by selling cakes and her old toys from a stall she set up in front of her house.
Leo won the award for his bravery after he was diagnosed with a brain tumour when he was aged just four and underwent major surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, and Daisybella Bond was also a winner for her ‘amazing spirit’ throughout her heart surgery treatment.
The Community Pride Awards are run by The Press in Partnership with City of York Council and the primary sponsor is York-based healthcare organisation Benenden Health.
All nominees must live in, or contribute to life in the City of York Council area.
