IT was sad to read of the death Ken Holmes in The Press on April 26.
Ken must have ranked among the most popular contributors to The Press letters page.
Filled with humour and anecdotal common sense, topical and humorous, his letters brightened up the day. They were the highlight of my day and Ken’s correspondences will be sadly missed by many.
Good night, Ken.

Humour and irony in Ken’s unique style
SO sad to read of the death of Ken Holmes. Without him, the Kiplingcotes Derby would have almost certainly folded because of the 2001 foot-and-mouth crisis.
Never one to use 10 words when one word would suffice, he had his own unique style of getting his point across in his letters, often tinged with humour and irony.
For me, they always had a pithy edge to them. It is a shame that we will probably never see his oft-used word ‘hayseed’ in print again.
