A YORK interior design store that helps people create their dream homes is set to close.

Hygge Shack Interior Design showroom, in Micklegate, York, has announced that it will be closing for good at the end of March.

In a post on the shop window, it said: “We will be closing our shop in March to concentrate on our interior design projects.

“We continue to be happy to help you with any aspect of interior design or soft furnishings.”

The store, which first opened its doors in October 2018, is known for “embracing texture, form, colour and pattern in fabrics and home-wares designed by both up and coming artists and works frequently with established British and Scandinavian designers".

Store owner, Kirsten Pearce, said that despite regular customers returning, the shop has struggled to have an impact - mostly due to the continuous rise of online shopping.

She added: “We will continue to operate as an online website and deliver our products to people in York and around the country.

“I have loved running the store, with my assistant, India.

“Interior design should be an experience for people, to come and ask questions to us, so we can help them build their dream home, have a one-to-one dialogue about their ideas and see some of the latest designs.

“Most of the customers who have visited are desperately sad to see us go.

“It is a shame but unfortunately people can now order items at the click of a button, no matter the investment."

Kristen added that she didn’t rule out another shop in the future and that she would continue to work and operate throughout the city, where most of her clients are based.
