HOW'S this for a school trip?
An entire school of 510 pupils packed on to 12 coaches and made their way to York to soak up the city's culture and history.
The youngsters came all the way from Meadowdale Middle School, on the Northumberland Coast, and got the chance to see some of the attractions the city has to offer, from the Yorkshire Wheel to York Minster and the Castle Museum.
Head teacher Fred Foster said the children had been studying what makes Britain great in school and he couldn't think of anywhere better to tie in with that topic than York.
Mr Foster said: "York is a fantastic city with layer upon layer of history all represented in the buildings.
"My staff came down to the city last month to put together an itinerary for the trip and we were all convinced it was the right place to come."
