A FORUM in York is asking people to join them in thanking shop staff and delivery workers for the work they are doing to keep everyone supplied.
York Labour Women’s Forum is backing a campaign by the shopworkers’ union USDAW called ‘Solidarity With Shop Workers’.
It is asking people to respect and protect store staff by being caring and kind.
Alison Hume, York Labour Party Women’s Officer, said: “Shop, delivery, and distribution workers are on the frontline providing vital public services during the pandemic.
“Having abuse hurled at them by shoppers is simply unacceptable. They must be treated with respect by employers and customers alike.”
The forum is also calling out to employers to “value their employees,” by ensuring they are kept safe and well through the pandemic. York Labour Women’s Forum also believes that shorter trading hours on Sundays allow shop workers free time.
