A TEENAGER from York is hoping to make a buzz when he has his head shaved to raise money for a children's cancer charity.

Sam Brown, 15, had been working with his textiles teacher on putting together a fashion show. But due to the coronavirus outbreak, this has had to be postponed for now, which is when the 'Brave The Shave' idea came up.

Sam will be getting up close and personal with the hair clippers on April 24, he has already raised £600 of his £1000 target. All of which will be donated to CLIC Sargent.

Diagnosed with leukaemia in 2017, Sam has been receiving treatment for the last three years.

Following the diagnosis, Sam and his family have received financial and emotional support from a CLIC Sargent social worker.

Sam said: “I decided to shave my head for the CLIC Sargent because my family and I have been supported by the charity and it made a massive difference to us.

"I’m really proud to be a part of ‘Team CLIC Sargent’ and I want to help them be there for other families like ours"

Holly Eyre from CLIC Sargent said: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to Sam for raising funds for CLIC Sargent and becoming a real ‘life-shaver’.

“Every day twelve children and young people hear the devastating news they have cancer. Many will lose their hair during treatment and you can show support for them by shaving your head and raising money for CLIC Sargent just like Sam.”
