A COMMUNITY foundation that has donated close to £1million to local charities is pleading for further help from members of the public.

Local charities helping the most vulnerable in North Yorkshire during the Coronavirus crisis are being supported through grant-giving by Two Ridings Community Foundation - which has so far donated nearly £1m.

But the Foundation - that works with the likes of York’s women project and Age concern is pleading to anyone who can to help by donating to the appeal.

A spokesman for the foundation said it receives new requests for funds from local charities unable to simply furlough staff and close its doors as more and more vulnerable people need assistance with accessing food, medicines, staying safe and keeping connected.

She said: “While the response of community organisations has been incredible, many vulnerable residents are still at risk, as without being able to rely on face-to-face fundraising or events, charities are facing unprecedented demands on their already stretched funding.

“Over the past three weeks, 59 local organisations have been awarded grants totalling nearly £106,000 by Two Ridings Community Foundation. The stories of hardship these organisations share are evidence of these challenging times, with people not having food to eat, safe places to stay or access to basic resources. “

Two Ridings Community Foundation is appealing for donations no matter how small. Anyone who has some extra money is being urged to lend a hand and make a much-needed donation.
