THE number of confirmed cases of coronavirus in the City of York Council area has risen - but only by one, from 182 to 183.

The North Yorkshire County Council area saw a slightly bigger rise in the number, from 616 to 629, while the East Riding of Yorkshire Council area saw an increase of seven, from 330 to 337.

The increases are relatively small and perhaps encouraging, but they have come after a weekend, which can distort the statistics, and it may be too soon to conclude they are a result of the lockdown paying off; a sustained period of little or no rise in cases will be needed to be able to reach that conclusion.
