A YORK band have achieved a “lifelong ambition,” by signing their first record deal with a Manchester-based recording organisation.

Skylights, made up of four friends from the city, have signed a record deal for their debut album with 42’s Records.

Turnbull Smith, guitarist in the band, said: “We started out as four mates just having a laugh. We never had high expectations we just enjoyed what we did.

“It’s been a lifelong ambition for us all to be in a signed band and we want to thank all our fans for the tremendous support.

“I knew this was the right label to move the band forward, no big sell just an honest approach.”

In a statement, 42’s Records said: “We’re delighted to confirm that we’ve signed Skylights.

“This band have a huge buzz about them, we’re looking forward to playing our part in making them one of the biggest bands in the country.”

Skylights are now planning to release a celebratory edition mini-album, which will include songs they have previously written mastered to a professional standard by 42’s Records.

Over the last 18 months, the band have started to make a name for themselves.

They have associated themselves with football clubs including Leeds United, who most of the band are huge fans of, and York City.

Skylights also featured on Sky Sports’ Soccer AM earlier this year, performing their single ‘Enemies’.

They are good friends with boxer Josh Warrington and Leeds United defender, Gaetano Berardi.

The band are also set to support fellow York-based band, Shed Seven, in Halifax later in the year.

Their song titled ‘What You Are’ has featured on national radio station, Radio X, a number of times since the band re-started.
