A GRILL pan left unattended caused smoke damage to a flat in North Yorkshire at the weekend.

Fire crews from Harrogate responded to reports of an alarm sounding in a residential building in the town at about 6.40pm on Sunday.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said a grill pan had been left unattended in the flat but the occupier had removed this to the sink before the crews arrived.

Firefighters helped ventilate smoke from the flat.

The property suffered 10-15 per cent smoke damage, according to the fire service.

At around 7.30pm the same evening, crews from York attended reports of a disused barbecue left in the grounds of a school in the city.

The coals were out when the crews arrived and an inspection was carried out.

Meanwhile, Selby crews responded to reports of smoke in the Kellingley area at about 8.55pm on Sunday.

When they arrived, crews found a large amount of rubbish on fire.

The fire service said it had been set alight deliberately and left unattended to burn.

Crews put out the fire using one hose reel.
