BUSINESS figures are needed to join the York and North Yorkshire Local Enterprise Partnership.

The organisation is looking for new members to join its board to help support the region's business community. No prior board experience is required, but candidates will need to demonstrate a desire to help develop Yorkshire for the future.

Benefits include the opportunity to build board experience, the ability to influence and shape real change; a supportive environment and the opportunity to develop new skills and an increased network of senior contacts.

The Y & NY LEP aims to shape future priorities, develop partnerships, and secure public and private sector investment to deliver economic growth across the region.

Since 2014, it has invested £230m to support business, infrastructure, and skills across York and North Yorkshire.

Board member, Lady Jane Gibson said: “I wanted to play a role in the support of York and North Yorkshire’s economy because it is such an interesting mix of villages, towns and cities, rural and coastal communities, big business and SMEs, many doing outstanding work.
"Our LEP board understands that our future lies in our strong sense of identity; we are a huge part of the North’s global brand and our businesses and communities are shaped by our high quality places and has been for centuries. It’s important work, now more than ever.

"The Board is very respectful of everybody’s role in the economy and no one voice dominates. There is no hierarchy of opinion; the voluntary and community sector is as important as private business or local government and there is no wrong question round our board table. I would encourage women from any part of the economy to join the board, all perspectives have equal weight. It is a people focussed, results-driven board working with an excellent executive team so it is very rewarding experience.”
