A domestic abuse charity has welcomed the first order during the lockdown banning a York man from the home of a woman he has assaulted.
Samuel Myers, 32, must stay away from her for 28 days under a domestic violence protection order (DVPO) made at York Magistrates Court sitting in Leeds.
A York spokesman for Independent Domestic Abuse Services (IDAS) said it showed the courts and police are working during lockdown to protect abuse victims.
She said a DVPO gives an abuse victim, particularly if they are being controlled by their partner, a space during which they can seek help.
IDAS’s refuges and helplines are open. Anyone suffering physical, emotional or mental abuse form their partner can contact it by ringing 03000 110 110, by emailing info@idas.org.uk or by visiting their website www.idas.org.uk.
