A POPULAR restaurant in York has donated around 200 meals to staff in care homes, paramedics, doctors and nurses.
Mumbai Lounge Restaurant, in Fossgate, York, donated 200 meals to sites across York, including St Leonard’s Hospice, as well as ambulance and fire stations, and theatre staff at York Hospital.
A spokesman for the restaurant said the meals were a token of gratitude for all the work NHS staff are doing for the community at this difficult time. He added that chefs were working around the clock yesterday in order to get the meals ready to deliver and show their support.
The restaurant told The Press earlier this month that it is now operating as a takeaway due to the coronavirus crisis and has seen a spike in its sales - as the company tries to ride out the pandemic. A spokesman for the restaurant said it has joined forces with Streamline Taxis to help deliver food to people around York.
It said: “We were really worried but after working together with Streamline and The Press to help promote it we have seen a real upturn over the weekend which is great. Even though everyone is stuck at home, they can still enjoy a curry from their favourite takeaway.”
