AN EAST Yorkshire pub has launched an initiative which supports the local community’s most vulnerable members who are self-isolating in their homes.

Rhian Livingstone, operator at The Buck in Driffield, has set up a helpline and Facebook page as part of the ‘Helping Driffield Covid-19’ initiative, enabling people to call or message if they need help with daily tasks made challenging due to the current circumstances.

It comes after the Government requested the closure of all pubs, with the exception of those offering takeaway services.

Rhian and her team have been supporting local people in any way they need, with tasks including weekly food shopping, dog walking, picking up and delivering prescriptions, and calling those in the community who are isolating alone.

Last week, they delivered a total of 234 prescriptions, carried out 45 grocery shops and have provided support over the phone to 50 people who are self-isolating alone.

Rhian said: “We understand that this is a challenging and difficult time for many and we want to help everyone get through this time together. Before the crisis, we were very much focused on being at the heart of the community, which is something we’re passionate about continuing, even when the pub is closed.

“We will continue to provide support to members of our community for as long as it is needed and we encourage people who do need some extra help to get in touch with us either on Facebook or by phone.”
