YORK'S first hyperhub - an electric vehicle charging station with the city's first ultra rapid chargers - is due to be completed within weeks.
The council's first hyperhub at Monks Cross Park&Ride is set to be finished by April and will feature rapid chargers as well as a solar canopy and battery storage to help the energy grid cope with demand during peak hours.
The second facility at Poppleton Bar Park&Ride is set to be complete in June.
There were plans for a third hyperhub at York Hospital - but council papers say there were access issues that could not be resolved. It says design work is taking place on an alternative city centre hyperhub.
"The roll out of York’s electric vehicle charging point network is expected at scale in the first half of 2021, including the hyperhub facilities, while the Clean Air Zone programme is complete with monitoring ongoing," the City of York Council report says, adding that work is progressing well.
The report says: "Despite the Poppleton Park&Ride site being used as a Covid 19 test centre, constructive dialogue between all parties has secured development access to enable the HyperHub to be built.
"Design work is continuing for a third City Centre HyperHub following the decision to move the site from York Hospital which had insurmountable access issues."
