Jim Welsman wrote of the horrendous state of the roads in and around York (Council must fix potholes before visitors arrive, Letters, March 22).
Although the roads are in a disgraceful state, the real put-off for tourists and locals alike is the abysmal state of the footpaths in the city centre, in particular Parliament Street.
