A FOOD delivery worker in York has been described as the “man who delivers happiness” as he has been making special additions to each customer’s order.

Tom Bissett, from York, took up a job as a Deliveroo cyclist in January this year after finding himself unemployed.

After noticing faces of people in lockdown looking “sad and low”, Tom decided he wanted to lift their spirits and make a difference. So, the 30-year-old started hand drawing feel-good artwork and positive messages on his food delivery bags.

What started as an occasional doodle has now turned into a full time hobby on the side of his Deliveroo hours, as Tom now makes sure every single customer gets a special feel good message and a handful of sweets - along with their takeaway order.

Tom said: “I’ve always been quite a positive person, I’d describe myself as a ‘happy chappy’.

“When I started delivering I realised I was in a rare position where I would get a few seconds with hundreds of people a week.

“I started by just doodling positive messages with a little drawing and immediately I saw how much something so simple could lift someone’s mood.”

Inspired to take his idea further, Tom has also started offering ‘Golden Tickets’ to every 50th customer - offering to pay for their next meal.

The winner of the first ticket messaged Tom to say that her partner had left her that week and she was feeling awful - but receiving that positive message with sweets and a golden ticket made her burst into tears.

“Something so simple and easy to do transformed her day.

“I think if we can bring positivity to the little things like a Deliveroo takeaway then we are doing something right,” Tom added.
