ONE MAN is today in hospital and a second man in police custody following a stabbing near the city centre last night.

Officers have been carrying out house-to-house enquiries and have closed off Apollo Street and part of the orbital cycle route as they investigate what happened yesterday evening.

Detectives believe the stabbing occurred in Apollo Street.

The 33-year-old victim managed to make his way to a takeaway nearby on Heslington Road for help. Staff there alerted the emergency services at 10.20pm.

The victim was taken to hospital where today his condition is reported as "stable".

Yesterday evening, police immediately set up the cordon in part of Apollo Street and started their investigation.

This morning they continued with house-to-house inquiries and other police activity in the area.

A 25-year-old man is currently in custody.

Police are appealing to the public to help them.

They particularly want anyone with doorbell or other CCTV or dashcam footage of Apollo Street or Heslington Road or who witnessed any suspicious activity to contact them.
