A BOY in York, who is aiming to help “all the children of York” get an Easter egg, has been supported by the team from a supermarket.
The community champions at the Morrisons store in Acomb, Naomi King and Natalie Brown, have been supporting Brody, 6, to help him raise money and Easter eggs donations for good causes.
After a discussion with his mum, Brody decided he wanted to make sure every child in York had a chocolate egg this Easter.
His initial aim was to raise £100, but after completing a 21-mile cycle with his grandad in his Power Ranger costume in less than three hours, he has so fair raised more than £650 and still rising.
Brody has so far used the money to purchase over 700 Easter eggs at Morrisons and Naomi and Natalie are helping him distribute these to five food banks that the store works with, alongside their own donations as part of the 100,000 eggs Morrisons is giving away.
Some have also been donated to local schools, including St Oswald’s Primary School, which Brody attends, with Naomi dressing up as the ‘Easter Bunny’ and telling them all about Brody’s work.
Speaking together, Naomi and Natalie said: “The support from our local community has been fantastic.
“We are a smaller store, so we may not receive as many donations as others. However, we have many customers who donate to the food banks regularly, with some customers donating over £30 worth of food each week.”
The community champions have also set up an Easter egg donation station in store so customers can add to the totals, and they have been including Easter eggs in their ‘Pick-Up Packs’ - which go to local food banks each week.
