Secret ‘hidden treasure hunts’ have been set up around the city which you can follow with a new app – called, appropriately enough, TRSRE.

The York treasure hunt trails are among more than 1,000 which have been set up across the country in locations such as Liverpool, Manchester and London - with an ultimate prize of £2,500 (plus some Easter-themed prizes) at stake.

Michael Lawes of TRSRE Inc – which has created the app – said: “It’s designed to bring some fun and games and to get footfall back to local areas.

“Being Easter we've added a load of Easter egg hunts, so you can literally embark on an Easter egg hunt around York this weekend and win Easter themed prizes.”

To join a treasure hunt, simply download the TRSRE app, create a free account and browse the trails in your area, which are categorised into easy, medium and hard.

The follow the trails, keeping you eyes peeled for hidden TRSRE stickers.

Once you find one, scan the barcode through your app to be entered into the monthly prize draws.
