A new TV documentary series launching on Thursday will follow the lives of North Yorkshire policewomen as they go about their business of tackling crime.

Women on the Force will follow women police constables, as well as PCSOs, backroom staff and even the force's Chief Constable Lisa Winward.

In the opening episode, which will be broadcast on the W Channel at 8pm on Thursday, PC Pauline Law leads a drugs raid and blue lights to a suspected drink driver.

New recruits PCs Emaleigh Simeson and Toni McMahon, meanwhile, bag their first independent arrest before working a challenging night shift, and emergency call handler Katharine Johnson has to deal with her worst nightmare: a 999 report about an officer under attack.

The ten-part documentary will also look at how the women balance their police work with their lives once they are out of the uniform.

Series 1 of Women on the Force followed the lives of women with West Yorkshire Police.

But series 2, which launches on Thursday, is all about female officers from North Yorkshire Police, a spokesperson for the show said.

"Frontline policing has never been tougher, and this series explores the demands facing officers today, the dangers they face on a daily basis and the impact this has on their private lives."

North Yorkshire Police is headed up by Chief Constable Lisa Winward, who oversees a team of 1,505 police officers, 99 special constables, 237 PCSOs and 1,049 police staff who together cover an area of 3,208 square miles.

In a comment made last year when it was announced that the new series of Women on the Force would follow her own force, the chief constable said: “It’s vital that the stereotypes of policing in times past become a dim and distant memory. Policing requires many skills that can only be brought to the service by an inclusive and diverse workforce.

“We’re proud to have a high proportion of women in senior roles at North Yorkshire Police, but there is more to be done to encourage the next generation of women into policing and ensure we are truly representative of the people we serve.”

Women on the Force begins on the W Channel at 8pm on Thursday.
