TWO people were rescued from a ledge during a fire at a flat in Scarborough early today.
North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service said firefighters used a triple extension ladder to bring the pair down to safety from the external ledge at a building in Victoria Road.
It said they were handed over to paramedics but it was believed they did not require hospital treatment.
It said two crews from Scarborough and others from Filey and Sherburn attended the kitchen fire, which caused damage to an oven and kitchen units, and extensive smoke damage throughout the flat.
The crews extinguished the fire and retrieved a number of animal cages.
The cause was believed to have been a build-up of fat/grease in the oven catching fire after the oven was left on.
