LAST month, as you may have noticed, marked a year since we first went into lockdown.
To mark the occasion, we asked Press Camera Club members to send us some of their favourite photographs of the lockdown year.
The selection they submitted captured all the frustration and longing of a year spent largely behind closed doors - and also illustrated the inventiveness with which we all found ways to cope.
Emma Richardson’s lovely cherry blossom is a good example: she photographed it actually on her car roof. The image has a wonderful starkness and simplicity.
We also loved Dominic Billy Aron Bamber unusual photo of Shambles. It was taken from a very low angle, giving a different perspective on this very familiar street. And that star visible high up in the inky sky, framed by the walls of the street’s ancient buildings, is just magical.
The winner of our #lockdown365 competition, however, just had to be Sarah Gabbatiss for her wonderful photo of her daughter at a deserted Monks Cross. It captures the eerie emptiness of our shopping centres during lockdown - and that longing we’ve all felt for things to return to normal. Congratulations, Sarah.
