A YORK museums chief has taken on an additional national role.

Reyahn King, chief executive of York Museums Trust, has been appointed to the Executive Committee of the National Museums Directors’ Council, which represents the leaders of the UK’s national collections and major museums.

She and Tristram Hunt, director of the V&A, will work alongside the new chair of the organisation, Dr Maria Balshaw, CBE, director of Tate.

Reyahn, who has been a member of the NMDC for six years, will work with fellow members to discuss current issues and priorities for museums and agree proposals to go to the full membership.

She said: “I am delighted to be appointed a member of the executive committee and I look forward to working more closely with such a knowledgeable and talented group of museum professionals.

"Right now, there are so many challenges facing museums and the NMDC provides a forum for us to work together, collaboratively, to promote the true value of museums and their collections.”

Reyahn has also recently joined the British Art Network Steering Group (BAN), a Subject Specialist Network, supported financially by the Paul Mellon Centre for Studies in British Art and Tate, with additional public funding provided by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
