EMERGENCY services were called in after a man fell down stairs.
Both Yorkshire Ambulance and North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue were called out at shortly before 11am today to Livingstone Street in the Leeman Road area of York.
A spokesman for the fire service said: "A crew from York attended an incident where a man had fallen down the stairs and broken his finger.
"This resulted in an open fracture which got lodged under a piece of stairwell trim.
"Paramedics adminsitered painkillers and fire crews used small tools to release the man.
"He was transported to hospital."
