How good to hear that safety experts are to consider life saving grab chains for the Ouse in York (The Press, April 13).
I wrote to the Press on this subject some time ago expressing concern that, once in the water, it was very difficult to get out.
Whilst I fully support grab chains I would ask safety experts to consider how useful they would be if the river level submerged them and also how easy they would be to locate if the person in the water was a poor swimmer or confused for whatever reason when the grab chain was not easily visible I would, again, suggest a highly coloured flotation device, attached to the chain, would make for easy location whether the river was in flood or not.
