EMERGENCY services were called out to an incident on a bridge over the A64 near York.
North Yorkshire Fire and rescue say they were called out at about 5.27pm to the A64 at Bilbrough last night.
A spokesman for the service said: "A crew from Tadcaster and an officer were called to assist the police at a welfare related incident on a bridge over the A64.
"Working at height equipment was used."
As The Press reported last night both lanes of the A64 were closed throughout the incident which lasted for about 45 minutes and it caused long traffic queues.
The road was reopened by about 6.10pm.
