YORK is among the most-searched destinations for road trips as more people look to explore their own country this year.
Analysis of Google searches by price comparison service Uswitch showed that the city is fourth in a list of the 'UK's Most Popular UK Road Trips'.
From the coast to countryside holiday destinations, there were over 104,880 Google searches for UK road trips between January and March this year.
By comparing the number of searches from June to July in 2020 with January and March in 2021, the data showed which locations have seen the biggest spikes and where road-trippers are looking to visit this year.
Fellow Yorkshire city Leeds topped the list with a 638 per cent increase in Google searches, Uswitch reported - closely followed by Manchester at 632 per cent and Glasgow at 500 per cent.
Our historic city of York ranked fourth in the list after seeing a 391 per cent rise in Google searches.
Cardiff took fifth place with an increase of 391 per cent.
