FIREFIGHTERS were called out to a shop fire.
North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue say they were called out at about 11.06am to Pickering Road in Thorton-le-Dale yesterday (April 19).
Crews from Pickering and Malton attended a fire to the front of a shop with flats above.
A spokesman said: "The fire affected the top of a bay window between some lead flashing and timber causing fire damage to supporting timber, it also caused smoke logging to flats above.
"The occupants of the shop used water from a garden hose on the fire before the arrival of crews. Fire crews used triple extension ladder, one hose reel jet, saw, thermal imaging camera, positive pressure ventilation fan and endoscope.
"The cause of the fire was a decorator using a flame paint remover."
