A SCULPTURE celebrating the famous Minster Cat of York has finally been shown to the world in a star-studded ceremony.
With a short family tribute to Gerald and glorious bell ringing from City of York Town Crier and Minster FM breakfast show presenter Ben Fry, a small number of passers-by stopped to enjoy the historical moment.
It has been months in the making with sculptor Anthony Bartyla, founder of The Raven And The Hare Stone Carving, using the same stone used for York Minster - the place Gerald called his own.
It took place shortly after 4.30pm outside The Cat Gallery, Low Petergate.
"He wasn't just our cat, he was everyone's cat," his owner Justine Spencer said.
York-born acting talent Mark Addy addressed those watching with the words: "It's my great pleasure to unveil Gerald.
"I've not seen him, very few people have."
He pulled the cover away to reveal a stunning tribute to Gerald and jokingly stroked the statue.
It will now become a part of the York cat trail, thanks to fundraising from local residents and tourists alike who fell in love with the feline.
You can watch the live stream via the 'Cathedral Cat Gerald of York' Facebook page or Instagram account @yorkminstercat.
